Two Million Dollars Confiscated at US-Mexico Border

According to reports from the Mexican Revenue Service, the Mexican authorities, in the center called "International Line Garita One", an office of Mexicali, Baja California seized more than two and half million dollars from hidden suitcases inside a van that was intended to cross the border into Baja between Mexicali and the United States.

In a press release on Wednesday, the Tax Administration Service reported that the incident occurred in the evening in the International Border Checkpoint center called ''The One'', an office of Mexicali, in Baja California.

The report does not indicate who was driving the truck. It only indicates that "the driver and badges were made available to the public prosecutor.''

''In carrying out the physical inspection of the vehicle, the Mexican customs officials inside found eight suitcases containing a total of more than two and a half million dollars in bills of different denominations,'' said the press release.

Under Article 9 of the Customs Act, any person entering or leaving Mexico with amounts exceeding $10,000 must declare it, otherwise they are committing a punishable offense
