LODGING - Posada Don Diego RV Park

Posada Don Diego, a quiet placed tucked away in Vicente Guerrero. For the Baja RV Traveler, this is the ideal stop off on your journey south, because it’s just two and half hours south of the border, which is just about the right distance for the first day of a longer trip.

What makes it such a great stop is the accommodations, the price and the hospitality. After getting through the border and down past the traffic of Ensenada, this oasis provides just what you need; full-hook ups, hot showers, incredible restaurant and plenty of space. With approx. 100 sites you’re almost guaranteed a place to stay without a reservation, so stopping in and having a nice place to stay in assured.

The grounds are always clean with large open pull though sites, making getting a rig of any size a breeze. There is daily garbage pickup and the maintenance of the property a daily task. The bathrooms are clean and there is a laundry available for a nominal $30 pesos a load. There are many large shower stalls, with nice hot water. The water is brackish, so you can’t drink it, unless of course you like a little salt in your water, but for a shower, it’s just great.

There are many full-time sites available and even a small hotel, if you decide you need a bed other than the one in your camper, trailer or RV. On the west side of the park, is an open area with lots of shade trees and grass, a great place to let your pooch stretch their legs too. The park has a small number of “camp dogs”, but the barking is limited and their not often seen, except when following the maintenance men as they make their daily trash pickup.

If you plan to make Posada Don Diego a stop on your Baja RV travels, you absolutely must eat at their restaurant. I would even suggest stopping their even if you have no plans of staying, it’s one of the best we’ve found. If you can make their Sunday breakfast buffet, you’re a lucky one, it’s terrific, but any time is a treat. For dinner you must try the chicken brochetta, it’s out of this world, grilled to perfection with lots of delicious veggies.

Posada Don Diego can not be seen from the road and if you’re not paying attention, you’ll pass by and not even know the place was there. Here is a map to the location. The easiest way to find it is to remember it’s behind the large “Z” gas company. If you’re heading south in Vicente Guerrero, the road will narrow from two lanes to one as you pass the only Pemex. About a quarter-mile further you’ll turn right, just before the “Z” gas, look for their sign. From the south, heading north look for the gas company on the left and turn left immediately after their wall. Follow the dirt road down past Don Pepe’s to the fork and continue forward along the road lined with white-painted rocks. The road will end at the restaurant.
