La Bufadora Art Show on July 2nd & 3rd

LA BUFADORA, ENSENADA, BAJA CALIFORNIA – On Saturday and Sunday, July 2 & 3, 2011, Restaurant La Bufadora will host its third annual art show from noon-5 p.m. The event will be held on the ocean view patio and grounds of the restaurant, which is located near the famous blowhole near the tip of the Punta Banda peninsula, 21 miles south of Ensenada. Admission is free. The La Bufadora Art Show will feature a wide variety of art forms including oil, acrylic and watercolor paintings, photography, sculptures, pottery, woven baskets, jewelry, fabric purses, ceramics, and more. It is an exceptional opportunity to meet and buy directly from a diversity of professional, up-and-coming, and student artists of Baja California.

Among the many participating artists and groups are:

  • -- CUNA Instituto de Culturas Nativas de Baja California ( with Kumiai, Paipai and Kiliwa native artisans presenting their woven baskets, pottery, jewelry and dolls.
  • -- Robert Pace Kidd (, who specializes in bas-relief sculpture in leather with a western cowboy motif.
  • -- Enrique Avilez (, known for his paintings and adobe sculptures like the massive "Madre Baja California" on the plaza of Centro de las Artes de Ensenada (CEARTE). -- Painter/muralist/maritime artist Scott Kennedy ( with original watercolors, oils, and signed prints. -- Cecilia Bitterlin with one-of-a-kind ceramics.
  • -- Cristina Rendón de Avilez, owner of the new Café-Galería del Riviera, with her nature- inspired designer jewelry.
  • -- ProArte de Ensenada art instructors Karina Medina Díaz, Armando Franco Guevara, Lizette Grijalva and Pedro Moto García with paintings and original art.
  • -- Intuitive artist Laura Jean Thompson ( with unique ceramics and sculptures. -- Marie-Pierre ( with one-of-a-kind fabric purses, hats, quilts and doggie suits, all handmade from (mostly) recycled materials.
  • -- Janika Scott ( with colorful paintings of women, the Baja desert, and abstracts.
  • -- Judith Jacobson, Carlos Cervantes, Candice Frost, and Ruben Gil Torres with original paintings.
  • -- Spiritual craftsman Rowan Randol with handmade sacred rattles for meditation and ceremony.
  • --Mark and Alejandra Lurie of Joy as Jewels with handcrafted jewelry and gemstones.
  • -- Students from the Casa de la Cultura in Maneadero with original art.
