SAN QUINTIN - Don Eddie’s Memorial Fishing Tournament

Don Eddie’s Memorial Fishing Tournament to be held July 1-3

SAN QUINTIN, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO – The Bay of San Quintín and Don Eddie’s Landing invite anglers to compete for trophies and cash prizes at Don Eddie’s Memorial Fishing Tournament to be held Fourth of July weekend from July 1-3, 2011. Hosted by Don Eddie’s Landing on San Quintín Bay, the event organizers and sponsors include the Association of Sportfishing Captains of San Quintín, the Baja California Secretary of Tourism, the Old Mill Hotel, the Old Mill Restaurant, Hotel Santa María and Restaurant/Hotel Jardines Baja, among others.

The excitement begins on Friday, July 1, with registration, welcome, and a review of tournament rules. On Saturday, July 2 and Sunday, July 3, the tournament starts at 6 a.m. daily, with weigh-in at 4 p.m. each day next at the Old Mill public boat ramp. Depending on water temperatures, seasonal catches usually include yellowtail in the 30 lb. range, ling cod from 20-30 lbs., and white sea bass from 40-60 lbs. The top three weights in any species (except shark and manta ray) receive awards to be presented at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Sunday evening. First place wins 50% of the purse and a trophy; second place takes 35% and a trophy; third place receives 15% and a trophy. Tournament entry fee is $100 dlls. per competitor. Anglers may bring their own boats, or arrange fishing charters in advance. In the afternoon visitors and participants can enjoy the festive, family-oriented atmosphere that includes entertainment provided by the local schools, along with food stands selling beer and seafood like fresh oysters and clams from San Quintín’s bays.

Located approximately 119 miles south of the city of Ensenada, or 187 miles south of the international border at San Ysidro, San Quintín is an agricultural center that offers excellent fishing, hiking, bird watching, and numerous other activities for eco-tourists and outdoor enthusiasts. Anglers are welcome to join the tournament caravan on the morning of July 1 from the San Ysidro border crossing to San Quintín, and/or the return trip caravan on the morning of July 4.
