Emergency Message: Wildfire San Diego-Mexico Border
U.S. Consulate General Tijuana, Mexico
The U.S. Consulate General Tijuana alerts U.S. citizens of a fast moving wildfire in the Tecate area of Baja California. On June 19 and 20, 2016, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection issued mandatory evacuation notices for several areas north of the border. Mexican Civil Protection authorities issued a similar alert for Tecate residents. Mexican authorities have also initiated preventative measures in areas close to the Tecate border . They recommended residents in the Tecate area wear face masks, ensure proper hydration, avoid driving vehicles in areas with dry foliage as it could spark a fire, and asked residents to call 066 if they observe any smoke or suspect fire. Mexican authorities predict a 70% chance that the fire will cross the border and are prepared to mobilize available resources.
