Emergency Message: Wildfire San Diego-Mexico Border

Emergency Message: Wildfire San Diego-Mexico Border

U.S. Consulate General Tijuana, Mexico

June 20, 2016

The U.S. Consulate General Tijuana alerts U.S. citizens of a fast moving wildfire in the Tecate area of Baja California.  On June 19 and 20, 2016, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection issued mandatory evacuation notices for several areas north of the border.  Mexican Civil Protection authorities issued a similar alert for Tecate residents.  Mexican authorities have also initiated preventative measures in areas close to the Tecate border .  They recommended residents in the Tecate area wear face masks, ensure proper hydration, avoid driving vehicles in areas with dry foliage as it could spark a fire, and asked residents to call 066 if they observe any smoke or suspect fire.  Mexican authorities predict a 70% chance that the fire will cross the border and are prepared to mobilize available resources.

Pasta y Basta Trattoria Italiana Nominated

Rosarito's Pasta y Basta Trattoria Italiana nominated for the nation's 100 "must" experiences 2016.
By: Anne Mullen

Chef Christian Gritti was born and raised in Bergamo, Italy. He attended one of Italy's most long standing culinary schools in San Pellegrino, Italy. His family has owned restaurants in Italy since 1896, making him the fifth generation in his family to carry on the tradition of preparing food for people.

The chef has worked at a variety of Italian restaurants in Northern Italy from his hometown all the way to the Italian Riviera. The Italian Riviera is where he mastered the art of making pansotti & pesto. One of the most famous restaurants he worked at was a one star Michelin called Restaurante Lo Ro. The chef enjoys creating dishes that give the palate a full sensation of elements such as mixing sweet with salty flavor & soft with crunchy qualities.

A Place and A Way of Life in Rosarito

One man's side job is whole town's favorite taco stand
By Sandy Eddahbi  /  Sunday, May 1, 2016

You will find Tacos and Beer off the beaten tourist track of Rosarito. It is unique in that it is actually on the ocean, so you will need a little guided tour to find this haven. When you find the Waldo's in the center of town turn west. Take this street all the way down to the beach. Make a left turn on the last street and continue down the block til you find Tacos and Beer.
This is not a fancy place. You will sit on a high stool in front of the counter or walk across the street and eat on the sand. Don't be put off, as It's definitely worth the trek. The seafood is fresh daily and the price is right, while the cleanliness of the place is striking.

Baja Gray Whales

Gray whales begin travels along the Southern California coast as of December they make one of the longest mammalian migrations known to man.

The journey from the Bering and Chukchi seas to the lagoons in Baja California and back averages between 10,000 to 14,000 miles.

"We have been seeing more and more gray whales every day," reported Scott Louie from Harbor Breeze Cruises in Long Beach. "Add in literally thousands of dolphins and an occasional orca sighting and this is a terrific time to be on a whale watching trip."

The whales feed on small crustaceans on the bottom of the ocean by rolling on their sides and drawing up bottom sediments and lots of seawater.

The whale then closes its mouth expelling the water and sediment through its baleen plates and leaving a tasty meal inside. Adult males can reach 46 feet, and while adult females can reach 50 feet. They weigh between 30 to 40 tons. Find out more about BGLC Baja Whale Tours

BGLC Baja Report
Summertime is upon us once again, and this year we are expanding your club - in a BIG WAY. Our goal is to provide our members with big savings and discounts throughout your community and the Baja. To enhance your life in Baja and help make living the Baja Good Life easy.

The changes this year will include closing the San Felipe office in Playa de Oro. We found it too difficult to grow the club, give tours and produce events such as the Blues Against Hunger Tour, and Baja Walk 100, while in the office. This last year we found ourselves out of the office more than we were in it, with the majority of our
